CNC Plasma Cutting

CNC plasma cutting machines work according to the instructions they receive. These instructions are known as “G-code” and they come from the person who operates the machine. Some individuals go beyond operation straight to building the machine’s controls for more flexibility. If you want a custom version of a CNC plasma cutting machine for example, and you currently have a two-axis controller, you can build a three-axis controller for it – especially if you need a wood router or milling machine. The CNC plasma cutter can be programmed to make just about what ever you can think of.. As with anything else, the cost of building CNC plasma cutting machine controls varies as they may or may not come with a cable and motor system (most do). In a kit, the cost may be lower. Buying the parts individually could raise your costs significantly but because of the complexity, that’s not a good strategy for beginners.

A lot of pre-made CNC machines already come with a controller but you have to be careful about which manufacturers the machines come from. Some manufacturers build their machines in a manner in which only they can repair them. If you’re interested in customizing your machine, see if you can find a pre-made CNC machine that uses common components instead. A pre-made CNC machine built with common components is easier to repair and tailor to your needs.

What kind of components are we talking about?

Well, there are several kinds. Every axis needs a driver and at the present moment, Gecko Drivers dominates the market with great products, prices, and customer support. The processor is responsible for the machine’s computing and a power source is needed to run the entire controller. External cables head the motor of each axis while the pendent hooks onto the controller. Pendants are what grants access to commonly used functions. If you want to zero out a particular axis, send the machine to another area, or change the machine’s speed for example, pendants are the little guys that let you do those things.

If you feel a little intimidated by all that information, don’t feel bad. It’s not a process that should be taken lightly. Remember the kits we talked about earlier in the article and use _it_ instead of trying to hand-tailor your own CNC machine.
